We’re up to 102 followers! Thanks to everyone for following this blog and for keeping Scouting alive. Without enthusiastic Scouts, Venturers, Rovers, Guides, (and whatever else you might be called) like all of you, Scouting would be a lot less fun. Good job, keep up the good work, and do your best to stay active in your unit!

How militaristic and/or strict is your unit?

I don’t consider my unit to be drastically militaristic, but at Camporees, summer camp, and other gatherings of many units, I realize that my Crew (and Boy Scout Troop that shares our number) sticks to and goes beyond the rules of BSA and is run like the military far more than most other units. For example, we are expected to put away everything that we’re not using- if our tents have things laying around, the contents of the tent are strewn about the campsite. If, after we claim to have picked up all the trash in an area, the Advisor/Scoutmaster finds any trash, the Crew and Troop have to do 10 push ups for each piece of trash he found. Also, as you can tell by the last couple of posts, Army vernacular has blended with our unit’s vernacular. I mean, the Advisor/Scoutmaster is a former Ranger, so that’s expected, but I didn’t know if the rest of the stuff I just mentioned was because of that or because it’s the nature of Scouting.
